Updates and Site News

Hello Loyal Readers,

A few quick bits

I’ve got a handful of updates for you this holiday season.

First, I would like to announce that The Political Junkie now has a few paid sponsors, scattered amongst the blog posts. My rules are that I don’t accept any political sponsors, and if there was some sort of local entanglement, I would disclose it as part of the post. The sponsorships help cover the costs of keeping this baby afloat. If you would like to find out how you can advertise on the Political Junkie, please email me here. Rates are quite reasonable and I love promoting local business. Of course, if you just want to make a charitable donation to the blog, you can do that right here.

Second, this is your last chance to be part of our reader poll. If you haven’t done it yet, please do so here. It is incredibly important that I know where to put my energies next year and your input has been very helpful. So far, I have had 46 responses, let’s see if we can get that over 50 before I put it to rest.

Shane Roth

Third, both the Herald and KGMI have gotten around to covering Sam Crawford’s ethical troubles (which we covered in detail here). Ethics crusader Shane Roth (see right), has put together an incredibly thorough ethics complaint and I urge everyone to contact the County and push for them to consider this issue. Even if you feel what Sam Crawford did was in the clear, it is an issue that needs to be settled and not dismissed lightly.

Finally, we should have an update about the City of Bellingham Employee Moonlighting issue here soon. I received another batch of documents from the public records department in Bellevue (where Salish Coast Sciences placed a bid for work but did not receive the contract), and I have submitted a documents request from the City of Bellingham to see how they are responding to this issue as more information comes to light. I had a brief informal conversation with Mayor Dan Pike at the Marriage Equality event a couple weeks ago (see my write up here) where he told me that, “Do you know how long it takes to put together a Moonlighting policy? We’ve been working on this for a while.” We here at The Political Junkie will continue to investigate this issue and see what progress has been made.

Thank you all for reading. Be careful when traveling this holiday season and stay warm and dry!
